Our garlic crop….a vampire free zone!!

Our pending garlic crop looks like it will be impressive…

....my husband has fears that I’ll be serving up garlic for breakfast, lunch and dinner, just to rid us of the masses.

I bought (my first and last) bag of organic seed garlic back in winter and planted it on the shortest day, along with some elephant garlic bulbs. The five bulbs….turned into 50 odd cloves, and in turn come the longest day we’ll magically harvest 50 odd bulbs…we’ll set aside the best cloves for next years crop and eat the rest, as well as giving it away when we can.

If you are planting garlic, make sure it’s garlic grown within your homeland …you wouldn’t want to plant the imported varieties and potentially proliferate the accompanying diseases and for that matter ...contravene Biosecurity laws.

I was horrified when bags of 10 bulbs of Chinese garlic in the vegetable store were a mere 49cents… after transport costs, retail markups, packaging etc the poor growers would be losing money…that’s NOT how it should be.

Home grown garlic is tasty, healthy, natural, and easy to grow without taking up too much space. Roll on 22 December…or slightly earlier just so we can eat some with our turkey!!

Watch this space for photos...you can probably smell the garlic from there!!

I love that you wrote about garlic. This is my second year planting garlic. It is a very generous plant- it gives its scapes, then it gives its cloves and the cloves start the cycle again. Check out my blog: www.joanspear.com, I am addressing similar issues!

what pure eco doesn't like....

sodium laureth sulfate (SLS)

food manufactured in china (for no other reason than $$)

MSG (mono sodium glutamate and all alternatives....food shouldn't need enhancers to make it taste good!!)

imported fresh fruit and vegetables...who needs snowpeas from Kenya in the middle of winter?

polyester and synthetic baby clothing & accessories...why would you wrap your baby in plastic???
